Nicholas Ringelberg, MD/PhD student

Nicholas Ringelberg graduated from Cornell University in 2016 with a BA in Biological Sciences, where he conducted research on the neural circuitry of motivated behavior in the laboratory of Melissa Warden. He then joined the laboratory of Mario Penzo as a post-baccalaureate research fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health, studying neurobiology of stress-related behavior. In 2018, Nicholas matriculated into the MD/PhD program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is conducting his thesis research in Ben Philpot’s laboratory studying the neural circuit mechanisms of seizure and behavior in a mouse model of Angelman syndrome. After graduation, Nicholas plans to complete residency in Child Neurology, and aims to become a physician-scientist caring for individuals with developmental disorders while laying the groundwork for novel treatments.
