Mark Shen, PhD

Mark Shen is a developmental neuroscientist and Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Shen is the founder and co-director of the Clinical Trials Program at UNC’s Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD). He serves as PI or Co-Investigator on several clinical trials in Angelman syndrome, including ASO trials. His research lab conducts longitudinal MRI studies (funded by NIH), which chart the brain and behavioral development of babies and children with Angelman syndrome from birth to adolescence. These brain imaging studies also collect motor, EEG, sleep physiology, and measure the flow of CSF in the brain. The goal of this research is to identify targets for intervention, outcome measures, and optimal age windows for treatment. https://markshenlab.org/
