Dr. Capal is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD). She is Co-Founder and Co-Director of the CIDD Clinical Trials Program with Dr. Shen. Dr. Capal’s clinical and research focus is in neurogenetic conditions resulting in neurodevelopmental disabilities across the lifespan and developing clinical trials to identify, characterize, and develop preventative, disease modifying treatments. She is Principal Investigator on multiple externally funded studies in Angelman Syndrome, including the Roche ASO trial, Ionis ASO trial, and Roche Alogabat trial. She also collaborates closely with the Angelman Syndrome Clinic at UNC, which is the oldest AS clinic in the world and serves both children and adults with Angelman Syndrome.
